Residential Estate

Sonoma County, California

A new four-bedroom main residence was designed around a pool deck and to open two directions to take advantage of, and connect to, the views of the existing pond on one side, and the Valley of the Moon, on the other side. The existing tool and root cellar barn was remodeled and upgraded to also provide a game room with a bar and a large kitchen and pizza oven. Taking advantage of a small knoll beyond the existing buildings, a private, wood and glass office pavilion was created, tucked between the oak trees and reminiscent of mid-century modern architecture. The pond was enlarged to allow for rowing and swimming, with the addition of a sandy beach and a two-story boat house equipped with a water wheel and a zip line.

The project also included a remodeled cottage, and the expansion of the original main residence into additional guest accommodations, plus a small studio unit for staff.
