The Hilt Estate

Santa Barbara County, California

The project started with the desire to restore the existing 1914 barn, transforming it into a hospitality space, and to design the winery building and accessory structures around it. The new winemaking facility is a 50,000 square foot structure on two levels, sited along the hillside, with two crush pads, separate spaces for the red and white tank rooms, and red wine barrel aging space below grade.

The tasting space, “The Barn”, opens to the North towards the vineyards, and it includes a main gathering space, three private tasting rooms with outdoor spaces, and a commercial kitchen.

A courtyard with a trellis and fruit trees sits between “The Barn”, the winery and a service barn.
